WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE GIFT BASKETS HAVE GONE OUT

Nominate A Teacher

TEACH TLC would like to recognize a teacher who has endured more than most during this most unprecedented time.

Please nominate a teacher you feel needs a bit of extra support right now.

Rules: E mail your nomination to ehealy@teachtlc.org and explain why this teacher is being nominated. Names will be kept confidential.

On June 1st three teachers will be chosen and receive a basket of gifts and gift cards courtesy of TEACH TLC.

It remains the mission of TEACH TLC to provide support to anyone involved in the education of our children. Teachers, counselors, social workers, etc.

Feel free to “share this” with any one in education.

We will be accepting nominations beginning at noon today. Let’s bring a smile and some help to someone who really needs it.

You are more than welcome to donate at any time on our website.

Yvette is a teacher and mother of a wonderful 11 year old son. This January, she was diagnosed with Lymphoma. She recently began her chemotherapy treatments and still came to school because…well, because she is a remarkable woman and teacher. I am lucky enough to know and work with this woman. The plan was to have a 5k to help Yvette, knowing how difficult the summer months would be without a paycheck.

It was scheduled for this May until… Covid19 shook our entire world.

Instead of simply cancelling, I have decided to host a virtual 5k for Yvette.

So, on April 11th at 9am I would like everyone to get involved. Whether on treadmill, elliptical, walking, biking, or jogging around your neighborhood- please help us help Yvette!

All while observing Social Distancing of course.

How to participate- you can make a personal pledge (leave a note on PayPal that you are donating to the YVETTE 5K), you can get pledges from others, or you can simply make a one time donation.

Businesses who wish to sponsor please e mail ehealy@teachtlc.org.

At 9am on April 11th we will begin. Send a picture or video of your own 5k efforts via e mail to teachtlc.org where we will make a collage of all the participants.

This is a fantastic way to keep in shape and help a colleague during this crazy time.

Yvette’s Story…In her own words

My story: In early December of 2019, I found a lump under my arm near my right breast. I was a little nervous and unsure about what steps to take, but Steve encouraged me to have it checked out. I then reached out to my friend Susan, who is beyond amazing, and is connected to our friend, Tara, a ROCKSTAR Radiologist. Tara immediately scheduled me for a mammogram at St. Mary (12/26/2019), which revealed that there was a lump on my lymph node. She and her team helped set-up a biopsy appointment with a great local breast surgeon on 1/2/2020 (great way of ringing in the New Year ). That same surgeon would later play an integral part in my port placement. Unfortunately, the biopsy results took about 3-5 business days, and yes, there was a weekend in there too! Talk about anxiety. Monday passed, Tuesday passed, Wednesday too—I was going nuts, then finally on Thursday, January 9, 2020, the surgeon confirmed… “You have B Cell lymphoma.” I was crushed and felt defeated, particularly because there are no answers that can explain how people get this type of blood cancer. No way of knowing how I could have possibly prevented it. Everything changed in less than 1 second. Steve’s been my rock throughout these last couple months, coming to each appointment and caring for me and Jacob when I’ve been too fatigued or recovering from minor procedures. After the biopsy, we soon met with my oncologist who would arrange for a PETSCAN, a bone marrow biopsy, an echo, and a ton of blood drawings-I literally could fill a blood bank! Finally, on 1/31/2020 we received a full diagnosis of Stage 3 A/B B Cell Lymphoma. I’ve recently had my port placed in and totally look like ?‍♂️. I’m slated to begin chemo on Tuesday, February 18, 2020: 6 rounds, approximately 3 weeks apart. This page is intended for my family and friends. I prefer to keep everyone posted through this forum as opposed to using my main page. Thank you for following me as I embark on this new journey. Much love, Yvette xo
